Scramble Tour
Climb through the hidden passageways to the top of the Valkenburg Castle ruins
An underground climbing tour
Hello adventurer,
Above the town towers the ruined castle of Valkenburg for centuries. Historical battles and legendary stories are inseparable from this place. This special location is the stage for the Scramble Tour. Very little of the castle is still standing, but the corridors underneath are still completely intact.
The Scramble Tour will take you to places that normally remain closed to the public. One of our guides will take you over several challenging courses including a via ferrata, and an abseil into the old well. Maneuver over the obstacles and stare into the depths.
The trail can be exciting at times, but the team’s motivational words and the guide’s tips will put your mind at ease. Or maybe you’ll be the one to lend a helping hand and help others get over their fears.
You navigate mostly underground but also clamber through the cave to the top of the castle ruins, where your effort is rewarded with stunning views.

Frequently Asked Questions
What clothes are best to wear?
It is always 12 degrees in the caves. Nice and fresh in the summer, nice and warm in the winter!
We recommend putting on a thin cardigan/coat or sweater. Winter coats are definitely not necessary. Shorts in summer are not a problem.
The marl in the caves is easy to knock off your clothes, yet we recommend putting on clothes that are allowed to get dirty.
At the starting point there are coat racks for your own (composed) group. Here you can leave any coats and bags.
Will I get dirty/wet in the caves?
No, the caves are dry and clean. Marl can get on clothing, but marl dust can be easily knocked off.
On our adventure cave tour, you may have to go through a water tank, so put on easy pants.
Are the caves low and narrow?
In general, one can stand and walk in the caves . The passages average 4 meters wide and around 1.90 high.
However, there are places in the corridors where it is slightly narrower and lower; the lowest point is 1.48. So in these places there is a need to stoop.
Can people with claustrophobia or fear of heights participate?
This varies from person to person and is difficult to answer this way, so we recommend contacting us by phone or email. We will be happy to discuss it briefly and give you personal advice.
I have medical complaints such as balance problems, back problems or heart problems: Can I participate with these?
This varies from person to person, so we recommend contacting our sales team by email or phone for personal advice.
